Digital Lisbon

Substack
The new way for content consumption, where essays, newsletters and blogs have merged into some homogeneous thing…sort of. There are plenty of people discussing their personal rural or village life in Portugal. Lisbon less so (or not that I’ve found, yet.). I’m so busy doing this website that people waxing lyrical about the orange trees isn’t really for me right now. I can, however, recommend two I subscribe to:
Portugal Weekly
Portugal Decoded
Both of these cover portuguese news and issues in English that help keep me informed without overwhelming me.
Love it or hate it, it’s really not that deep. There are plenty of Portugal/Lisbon accounts, here are a few I follow. I’ve kept it non-food-related, there’s plenty of those, your algorithm will do its job without me.
Lisbon Besties.
Obviously if you’re not following us already, you should be!
A young American woman living in Setubal, she uses her account to address questions she’s asked and life in Portugal in a way I think is real and balanced.
Funny, irreverent content about being Portuguese.
Brittany travels the world eating all things sugary & sweet. Based in Lisbon, I swear every time I see her reels she is trying some new and kooky activity or workshop in town.
I love Liz’s handy snippets on learning Portuguese. [link]

Gorgeous photography of Lisbon.
A celebration of all things azulejos (portuguese tiles)
Websites
You’re at it! Your Lisbon Bestie! We make this content for free and none of our recommendations are paid for. We - Janine & Kate - wanted a website like this when we got here. One that combined real-life recommendations that wasn’t just food, tourist or trend related. One that was fun but also had everyday info like utilities and transport to help navigate initial integration. When there wasn’t one we decided to do it ourselves. It’s been an immense amount of work but a true labor of love that we hope you find useful. Come back often as we continually add more resources, lists, and recommendations that we stand behind. We are also working on neighbourhood guides.
