Flora Shopping

Pink tulips wrapped in brown craft paper.

Nothing makes a house a home quite like some lucious plants. Whether it’s the birthday of a new friend, showing appreciation to someone hosting a dinner or you just want to make your own space feel more lovely, some flowers is always does the trick.

Here’s my list of tried and trusted flower and plant shops. I just hope you have a better green thumb than I do.

Flowers

Saudade Flores

This little French-owned shop got my attention when my friend Brittany would consistently turn up to events with the most precious bunches of well-designed posies. I also now use them and love how they combine whimsy with modernity. They usually have a few small pre-made bunches staring at 15 or 20 euros, or you can make your own.

“Florista”

I most often go to a place that google maps just has listed as “Florista”. Old-school, no social media or internet presence, cash only. I simply give the old man who’s always there 15 or 20 euros and let him do his thing. I always walk out with such an impressive and beautiful bouquet. If you want something embarassingly impressive and over the top, a mere 30 euro will do it! He also has some very affordable little plants out front that I buy when the ones I bought previously have died (plants hate me). Cash only.

Bestie Tip: English is limited, but transactions are still easy - just point at what you like! Please let’s keep these local, ma & pa stores alive.

Pequeno Jardim

Exterior of a small Lisbon flower shop called 'Pequeno Jardim' with colorful potted and arranged flowers outside and an entrance with a person inside.

A gorgeous store front you’ve probably already walked past, with people often taking photos for their Instagram, Florista Pequeno Jardim also has an excellent, reliable, online service. Which, in Lisbon, is rarer than it should be. The website has many beautiful options at various price points, though it’s still a bit more expensive than other places. But you get what you pay for.  So whether digital or in person, you’ll be happy and so will the recipient.

Alcina Flores

When at Time Out market, I like to stop here for a handful of something to brighten my day. The selection is wider than most other places listed, so it’s fun to peruse and just buy whatever takes my fancy in the moment. I consider them fairly well priced for a touristy spot.

Note: This is on the outer corner of the building but there’s another, small florist inside Time Out that my friend swears is better. I’ll let you decide.

Plants

Yellow apartment building in Lisbon with white-trimmed windows, a small balcony with lots of green plants, and a white umbrella on the balcony.

Plantome

Out near Colombo Mall, this shop is modern and adorable with a decent selection in a small space. They also have an online store, though I’ve not used it as I like to buy my plants in person. Check out their website for workshops, they look like fun, I’m keen to do one.

Plantae

I’ve bought several plants from here, The staff are knowledgeable. I really like the selection and the vibe here. Very reasonably priced also. The only downside is their selection of pots, which are almost all terracotta style, but it’s still the one I frequent most.

Oficina Verde

I don’t know much about plants, but I feel like the selection here is a bit more unique and the selection deceptively large. The staff really love what they do. They also have a website but go in person and get chatting.

Honourable Mention: Planthiza Cascais

Technically not in Lisboa but as this is more like a proper nursery than small store I had to include it. As such, it obviously has a wider selection and is much better if you’re looking for outside plants. It’s at the Miradouro Jose Freire, so you can make a little day out of it and have lunch at one of the places there.
